The Cultures of Circulation working group will study patterns in the movement of culture across space and time, as well as the orientation of cultural works and performances to their own movement and reproduction. We seek to understand the historical and social variations in forms of consumption and reperformance, whether normative or illicit; markets of cultural goods exchanged through money, as well as kinds of circulation that run counter to market-based assumptions of rationality and monetarized value; ownership and enclosure as well as piracies and fakes; technology and other material conditions; asymmetries and inequalities in exchange; rhythms and temporalities of serial forms; publics, markets, and other imagined fields for cultural movement; ideas and ideologies of circulation; the erotics or comedy of circulatory forms; possibilities of translation and refiguration.

The Cultures of Circulation working group will meet on alternating Tuesdays, starting in fall 2006. Please contact the CCA for more information. All are welcome.
